You can’t ignore the signs of aging: dry skin, age spots, aching joints, crow’s feet, failing vision, and sagging energy levels. Besides taking anti-aging supplements, we can delay the onset of aging by lovingly embellishing our diet with natural anti-aging foods. Imagine how good it feels to look younger than your real age!

1) Avocados

Avocado is nature’s gift of a perfect moisturizer for dry, aging and sensitive skin. A powerhouse of Vitamin E, essential fatty acids, and antioxidants, lutein (for eye health) and glutathione (a natural detoxer). Avocados also contain chloresterol-lowering oleic acid and heart protectors, potassium and folate. In Central America and South America, avocados are even valued as an aphrodisiac! A super natural anti-aging food indeed.

2) Almonds

Eating a handful of almonds every day are good for healthy heart, skin, hair and nails. A good source of Vitamin E and magnesium, almonds keep aging hearts and chloresterol levels in optimal condition.

3) Sunflower Seeds

One ounce of sunflower seeds contains 75% of the RDA requirement for Vitamin E, an essential vitamin for youthful looking skin. Rich in selenium, copper, fiber, folate and Vitamin B6, sunflower seeds one of nature’s best natural anti-aging foods.

4) Blueberries

According to a Tufts University’s study, antioxidant anthocyanins found in blueberries can prevent oxidative damage, a process that ages you. A cup of this natural anti-aging food a day is good enough to not only prevent, but reverse physical and mental aging! Blueberries are one of nature's most powerful anti-aging supplements.

5) Watermelon

The zinc in watermelon cleanses toxins from the body, particulary, from the bladder and kidney. Because 90% of watermelon is water, it quenches thirst, fills you up, and makes you eat less! This natural anti-aging food contains Vitamins A, B, C and E, and minerals zinc, selenium, and essential fats. They are your body’s SWAT team against free radicals.

6) Spinach

The iron and folate-rich spinach is not only Popeye’s favorite, but one of the best natural anti-aging foods. The dark green vegetable helps boost the body’s immunity, enhances vision, improves memory, beautifies the skin, slows aging, protects the heart, and improves blood circulation. Eat spinach every day to delay aging, and look younger than your real age.

7) Tea

It was only in recent years that coffee takes over tea as a lifestyle beverage of choice. Nutrients wise, tea beats coffee hands down. The natural anti-aging and weight loss benefits of drinking tea are well-known. Green tea, pu-erh, and wu-long tea are popular among health-aware individuals. Tea contains polyphenols and the most potent is catechins which have anti-cancer and anti-aging properties.

Can you explain how to use sunflower seeds as natural anti aging? Do we need to eat it? Or use it for masking our face?

Hi Metty,

I would rather eat a handful of sunflower seeds every day as a healthy snack or for breakfast rather than using it as a face mask. I believe you could make a homemade natural face mask using sunflower seeds as one of the ingredients. Sunflower seeds are great superfoods because of the abundant presence of antioxidant Vit E. Vit E is known for its anti-aging properties. Go to WH Foods - it has a good writeup on sunflower seeds. Thanks for visiting!

I really appreciate this hub. Now that I am getting older, I think more about what I put in my body that will be healthy and keep it looking fit and young. As I was reading it, I remembered I had some sunflower seeds, so I got them out and started snacking. If only I could sleep better! Thanks.

I really pay attention to what I eat and always trying to found out the ways to look and feel younger.

I think diet is very important and all this foods you've mentioned are very effective, healthy and should be eaten regularly. Antioxidants are the key to looking younger and the food that contains them is the most valuable one. Vitamin E, C and Selenium are the best antioxidants and they improve our overall health as well as our looks.

I enjoyed this hub, I love reading about healthy food and how it can help us be healthier and more beautiful.

Thanks EmmaMedu and Elayne001 for commenting on this hub! It's amazing how changing some of our eating habits can improve overall health - and quality of aging.

Ground flaxseeds are another super anti-aging food and super anti-oxidant. Add to cereals or brown rice. Grind small amount of the tiny seeds in a coffee grinder and store them in an airtight container.

Hi,

Thanks for sharing this great article. These are great foods not only for our skin but for our over all health.

What we also should pay attention to if we want to look and stay younger is our skin care products. Many people do not know that everything that we apply to our skin ends up inside our body. So it is very important to use top skin care products without chemicals. Chemicals in skin care products and other body care products can damage our liver and in worst cases kill you.

I highly recommend using only organic products if possible. Your body and Mother Earth will thank you for it - your kids too...

Be yourself and be happy, never stop dreaming!

Happy Natural Life,

Kristin
